Rain from Mortal Kombat in the GA-HQ Game Character Database

Rain is a character from the Mortal Kombat fighting games and made his playable debut in the console versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. In MK Trilogy (1996) he got a complete moveset including own finishing moves. He returned as a non playable character in the story mode of Mortal Kombat Deception (2004) like almost all MK characters and made a real comeback including a new design and special moves in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. While he was really good in that game, the developers changed his visual design and moveset again for his appearance in Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) though in which he was a downloadable character. He returned in Mortal Kombat X (2015) but was again just an unplayable character who had to be fought in the story mode of the game. In Mortal Kombat XI (2019), Rain did not play any role in the story mode but returned as one of the two returning Mortal Kombat characters in the Kombat Pack 2 in Summer 2020. Rain started of as a “red Herring” and was seen in the arcade version of UMK3 but could not be unlocked there, due to him wearing purple clothes and being a Edenian Prince even it was a joke about Purple Rain, a popular song by the Artist formerly known as Prince. His first appearances were not that interesting, him being just another Ninja pallete swap, but with the time he got a really cool design.

We organized a big tribute to the Mortal Kombat franchise with all characters from Mortal Kombat I-9 in their different designs and costumes. Rain is a part of it with his classic design from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and he newer looks from Mortal Kombat Armageddon and Mortal Kombat 9 of course. These illustrations were drawn between 2011-2014.
