Ampharos used Thunder Punch by TakiShirochi

Thu Phương Đỗ aka TakiShirochi is a young artist from Vietnam who joined our Pokemon Generation II Tribute as soon as she heard about it and quickly claimed the first Ampharos slot as her first contribution to a Game-Art-HQ Art Collaboration!

Thunder Punch

“An electric punch. It may paralyze.”

Thunder Punch is an Electric Type move introduced in Generation I, and then reintroduced as TM Move TM41 in Generation II. The user throws an electrically charged punch that does decent damage and has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target.

Though it used to work in Generations II through V; the paralysis aspect of the move will not work on Electric-Type Pokemon.

Electabuzz from Gen I was the first Pokemon in our Tribute that used the Thunder Punch. In 2017 Ampharos and Elekid used it as well.

Ampharos used Magnet Rise by Tigryph

Kelly A. Bornstedt aka Tigryph from the USA joined our Pokémon Tribute in August 2016 after she saw one of the submissions by Skysparrow for it. She could not resist and claimed not only Nidorina but also the lovely Slowpoke with the not so lovely Psychic move. In 2017 she returned to take on Ampharos.

Kelly draws a lot of Pokemon related art, I recommend to have a look at her gallery here!

Magnet Rise

“The user levitates using electrically generated magnetism for five turns.”

Magnet Rise is an Electric Type move that causes the user to become immune to Ground-type moves for five turns, similar to the Levitate ability.

This is an incredibly helpful move to Electric Pokemon as Ground is the only type that they are weak to, so eliminating this weakness can make Electric types become increasingly more powerful.

“The tail’s tip shines brightly and can be seen from far away. It acts as a beacon for lost people.”

Ampharos is a pure electric-type and the final evolution of Mareep. Along with the rest of its forms, this bipedal Pokemon takes residence in the grasslands but has a huge practical use as a living light-bulb – and a luminous one at that!

Ampharos can generate a vast amount of shining light from the tip of its tail. For eons, it had been used as a beacon to help people navigate to safety across land and sea, with a glow so powerful it can be seen from space. It was also used in the far past as a means of communication, using the tail to send light signals.

The most notable of its species is Amphy (Sparkle in the animé), owned by Olivine City Gym Leader Jasmine. Amphy served as the shining beacon at the city’s lighthouse, but had fallen ill at some point and was unable to do its job. The player would be unable to challenge Jasmine for the Mineral Badge unless they collected medicine for it at nearby Cianwood City.
