#206 Dunsparce used Serene Grace and Defense Curl in the Game-Art-HQ Pokemon Gen II Tribute!

ShadeOfShinon joined Game-Art-HQ back in early 2013 when I asked her if I could feature her take on Noivern from Pokemon X/Y on the site. Kadabra and Rapidash for our Pokemon Gen I Tribute in 2016 were her first submissions for our art collaborations. In 2017, she joined our Gen II Tribute very quickly and claimed Dunsparce and Lanturn.

Serene Grace
“Boosts the likelihood of additional effects occurring when attacking.“
Serene Grace is a Pokemon ability first introduced in Generation III. It increases the chance of a move having additional effects, for example if the move Psychic is used then a Pokemon with the Pickup ability will add an additional change of loweing the opponent’s Special Defence stat.
If a Pokemon is holding a King’s Rock or a Razor Fang then from Generation V onward the 10% flinch chance is increased to 20%.
Dunsparce is the only Pokemon that was drawn using this ability in our project actually, it was also impossible to find a scene from the Pokemon series for a screenshot of it.
Dunsparce used Defence Curl by GlitzerKirby
GlitzerKirby is one of the German artists that followed the call and joined GA-HQ due to the Pokemon Tribute in 2016. His three Generation I contributions covered Hitmonchan, Voltorb and finally Doduo with the Run Away move that nobody else drew in the Gen I & II Projects. When we started our Gen II Tribute, Glitzerkirby joined quickly with Sunkern, Dunsparce, Pineco and finally Cleffa.

Defense Curl
“The user curls up to conceal weak spots and raise its Defense stat.“
Defense Curl is a Normal-Type defense move introduced in Generation I. It was then reintroduced in Generation II as TM Move TM40.
The user of this move curls up into a defensive position which then allows the user’s Defense stats to go up in battle by 1 level. Other moves like Rollout can have their attack power increased when Defense Curl is activated. Right now its used by Sandshrew and Dunsparce!
#206 – Dunsparce
“It digs into the ground with its tail and makes a mazelike nest. It can fly just a little.”
Dunsparce is a Norma-type Pokemon that is serpantine in appearance and has a 50/50 gender split ratio. It is known as the ‘land snake’ Pokemon and often lives in caves, making maze-like nests.
It is able to float with its tiny wings, however it cannot take full flight. Despite being able to float, it likes to spend most of its time underground, using its pointed tail to burrow quickly.
In the Pokemon anime, a young boy named Bucky was the only child in his neighbourhood without a Dunsparce while all the other kids owned one and would often race them. Ash and his friends helped Bucky track down and catch a Dunsparce and it was seen racing with other Dunsparce at the end of the episode.
