Rain in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 / MK Trilogy drawn by DJOK3 for the MK Tribute |
Rain was originally planned for Mortal Kombat 3 in its vanilla version already like Scorpion and Reptile too, but due to problems with the actor his debut got delayed to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. He was previously more like a Joke character with him being purple..and actually an Edenian prince (Purple Rain by Prince..you get it) and not playable in the original arcade edition of UMK3. This changed with the later released console versions where he got playable, own moves and an own backgroundstory as well. Rain is a demi-god, the son of a true god (Argus) and an unknown edenian, but his father was ashamed on his own infidelity to his wife and gave Rain to an unnamed but important general of the Edenian army. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Rain works for the Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn against Earthrealms warriors during the invasion led by Kahn he became a traitor of his own realm Edenia, not knowing that Shao Kahn himself killed his adoptive father. In his ending, Princess Kitana informs him about these events and Rain changes sides to kill Shao Kahn.
