Mortal Kombat Art Tribute: Kitana from Mortal Kombat II
Kitana made her debut in Mortal Kombat II together with her “twin sister” Mileena and seems to be a loyal assassin working for Shao Kahn. She was seen talking to an Earthrealm warrior (Liu Kang) however which made Mileena suspicious about her motives. In her ending, it is revealed that she knows that Mileena is a clone, created by Shang Tsung and that she is a princess whose parents once ruled Outworld before they were overthrown by Shao Kahn. She participates in the tournament, beats Kahn, and restores the realm of Outworld to its former glory. This story was later changed a lot with her parents being from Edenia another realm introduced in Mortal Kombat 3. In Mortal Kombat history, she was not able to beat Shao Kahn by herself but through the help of the Earthrealm Warriors. Unlike most of the other fighters, she uses weapons, the Steel Fans for almost all her special moves. These became her trademark weapons throughout the complete Mortal Kombat series. Her Kiss of Death Fatality which replaced Sonya’s became quite popular at the time. ~ Kitana the Edenian princess was drawn in her classic Mortal Kombat 2 design by Rubiocroft from Chile as part of the GA-HQ MK Art Tribute back in July 2012 as one of the first submissions for our just announced round 2 which raised the number of 80 illustrations to over 300 now in 2014. |
