The GA-HQ Final Fantasy Art Tribute - Those Who Fight Further

Paine, the new Protagonist in Final Fantasy

paine render

Paine

Paine is not as popular as the other two female main protagonists Yuna and Rikku in Final Fantasy X-2 but somehow she was able to get claimed before those mentioned two in our Final Fantasy art colaboration.

She looks good in all costumes there in the game, but has no real unique abilities due to the nature of FFX-2.

Why did you choose Paine?

Paine is one of my favourite Final Fantasy designs, and also quite an unpopular character (probably just because she was only in X-2). Drawing the slightly less common characters is always good fun!

What do you like about her and about FFX-2?

I have a confession: I’ve actually never played FFX-2. I know all the characters because there was this capsule vending machine (where you put in a coin, turn the dial, and out pops a random toy in a plastic capsule) when my family went on holiday one time. I kept putting coins in til I got all the FF figures, because I love FF stuff! Rikku now sits on my desk at work, and Paine is attached to my laptop bag so that I can easily spot which one is mine :D I’ll definitely be picking up the Vita re-release of X-2 and giving it a play for the first time.

What tools did you use for the artwork?

I sketched out the idea and pose in pencil, scanned it in, then inked and coloured in Photoshop with my Wacom Cintiq.

Please describe your take on her

It’s a pretty simple take really: one of my favourite things to draw is a pretty girl looking bad-ass, wielding cool weapons. That’s exactly what I was going for here :)

Is there something else you want to tell the visitors of the Final Fantasy Art Tribute on GA-HQ?

I’m a big Final Fantasy fan, so it was really cool being part of this tribute, and also seeing the other entries as they came in.

Why did you choose Paine?

I chose Paine because I never like to pick the PRIMARY characters, I like the underdogs or background support to get a little bit of shine.

What do you like about her and about FFX-2?

I particularly love how closed off she is and dedicated to accomplishing her personal missions. She makes it a point to stay focused at all times.

What tools did you use for the artwork?
This was completed 100% in vector illustration using Adobe Illustrator (all pen tool work) and my Art Master III

Please describe your take on her
Paine seems like me in many ways. She’s very observant and quiet, more so analytical than most, but has her own motives which most may not see initially and she makes it a point to keep to herself but is very protective of those she cares for.

Paine Final Fantasy

Paine Final Fantasy X-2 Fan Art

Why did you choose Paine?

I always found Paine a really cool character with a wicked outfit, so when the opportunity came up I jumped at the chance to draw her.

What do you like about her and about FFX-2?

I haven’t actually played much of FFX-2, but Paine showcases another awesome sword from the Final Fantasy series.

What tools did you use for the artwork?

This piece was fully drawn from scratch in Photoshop and with a Wacom graphics tablet.

Please describe your take on her

I really wanted to show off Paine’s sword so in a way that became the focus point of the picture.

I also wanted to put her in the spotlight for a change as she is a lesser known character. With a mixture of the two, I’m pleased with how she came out, I wouldn’t want to mess with her!

This is shaping up to be another excellent project with many talented artists so I hope you all keep checking back to see more of the entries in the future!
