1994 – Nintendo called it the “Year of the Cartridge” and with a ton of games for the Super Nintendo like Super Metroid and Donkey Kong Country among many more they had a good reason for that…but on the other side..the new CD Rom Medium showed its first advantages on video game consoles when the Sony Playstation arrived in Japan (December 1994) and more and more games on the PC were released on the CD as well. A ton of games like Tekken, Killer Instinct, Darkstalkers, Donkey Kong Country, Earthworm Jim, Final Fantasy VI and Warcraft were released in 1994 and many of the character designs of that year are still a thing now in 2014, 20 years later. Nintendo just released a new DKC, the Tekken characters like Kazuya and Yoshimitsu are almost as known as the Street Fighter guys and the Killer Instinct characters like Sabrewulf or B.Orchid are still known thanks to the reboot from 2013. And who does not know the Cactuars which debuted back in FFVI! The list below is growing every week, and will hopefully give you an overview about the game character creations from 1994! |
