1996 was a super important year for Nintendo since they released their Nintendo 64 and the new franchise Pokemon, but the year can also be seen as one of the most important and interesting years in the nineties for video gamers since a lot of new game characters were designed which are still popular around 20 years later, only a few other years spawned so many popular characters. Nintendos early Pokemons like Pikachu, Charizard and Bisasam are still a lot more known than many of the later ones, Lara Croft, the star of the Tomb Raider games went through many design changes later but it still one of the most known game characters in 2014. Sony published Crash Bandicoot with Naughty Dog, Capcom released Resident Evil with characters like Chris Redfield, Jill valentine and Albert Wesker, and all those are just a few of the many video game characters first seen in 1996.
