The RPG Video Game Art Challenge on Game-Art-HQ: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Oceans
The Game-Art-HQ Art Challenges are both a Challenge and a Community Project that is organized through our Group on DeviantART. GA-HQ Community Members can either claim a game or a game character of their choice if it is related to the Art Challenge Theme or get a selection of three games or characters picked for them |
Gibari, Kalas, Xelha (and Meemai), Lyude and Savyna of Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Oceans
“I had the idea for this drawing sketched down into my sketchbook back in January. I always have an ongoing playthrough that I pick up where I last left off whenever I have an urge to play the game. Last time I played we had just arrived in Komo Mai, the City of Flowers, and when Kalas says “no thanks!” to the guy offering Komo Mai cookies, I thought “there’s no way Gibari would say no to them”
I decided to do it as part of the RPG challenge mostly for two reasons:
1. This is a CHALLENGE, and I really wanted to challenge myself. I usually dislike drawing little details and spending a lot of time on a single drawing, and I knew tackling this drawing would push me to my current limits and force me to do things I usually avoid doing.
2. Baten Kaitos fandom, where are you?! It seems like not long ago there was still BK fan art regularly popping up here and there but now it feels like the fandom has almost vanished. The memory of this game needs to live on!
And if you have never played Baten Kaitos, do yourself a favor and at least watch the epicness of the opening movie!”
Watched it and now I regret that I did not have a Gamecube at the time and got into Baten Kaitos which seems to be a pretty great RPG. I like that StarsAndOceans feels similar like I myself when it comes to giving older, almost forgotten games a bit spotlight through the fan art collaborations and challenges. We can’t re-release the games or something but sharing our good memories about a game and write about it, illustrate it through art or remix its music is what brings back the older games 🙂 |
